What is UX Design

UX design means user experience. Created in 1990’s by Doctor Donald Norman, UX design is focused on users, a design process based on satisfying the needs of the user when it comes to digital and non-digital products. The UX designer’s job is to observe and understand user behavior. He collects data from different research methods like: interviews, surveys, analyze experiences etc. The following step is the process of brainstorming and finally creating and testing digital products.

Terminology:

Wireframes Before creating the prototype, the UX designer creates a wireframe, freehand or digital, where he communicates his design idea and how the design will work. The wireframe is focused more on the experience of the user ( Is it satisfying? Creates values?) and less on good looking visual presentation.

User Research Every design begins with a research. UX design begins with the user. Observing the user, working with customers, brainstorming possibilities, developing ideas and than testing ideas.

User Persona The User Persona is a fictional representation of all the data research based on goals, needs, behavior. This step is important because it builds empathy with the user and his needs.

Information Architecture Information architecture refers to the organization of all the information and data. The information must be very accessible for the user and easy to navigate. This step means creating maps, systems and structures.

Scenarios This step includes a list with possible reactions or behaviors of the user. This means a lot of research in different fields like Psychology, Sociology and other fields.

UI Design UI Design (user interface) is responsible for the visual design and how the product looks like and for the interaction design and how it works.

A great UX design solves problems, designs experiences, is accessible, creates a great engagement process that can increase value of a product.
